Another Surprise! Retroid Pocket 5 Wants To 'Broaden Your Horizons' (UPDATE)
Retroid is heating up as August closes after remaining relatively calm for most of the year. The Retroid Pocket 5 was unveiled a week after the Pocket Mini was teased and revealed.
The official Retroid accounts used the hashtag "Broaden your Horizons" and posted two renders of the Pocket 5 on social media. Apart from showcasing a more balanced overall appearance, the renders don't offer much to infer. Additionally, Retroid is adopting a borderless display, following Ayaneo's lead.
Additionally, Retroid follows the trend of throwback handhelds with thumbsticks encircled by RGB lights. The program should allow us to alter the colours and patterns of the lighting.
In addition to the power and volume buttons on the top frame, the Pocket 5 features stacked shoulder buttons. The handheld will likely include two front-facing speakers, one on each of the left and right sides.
We'll have to wait for Retroid to release further details other than that. However, judging by the appearance of the Pocket 5, Retroid may be attempting to enter the luxury market.
If that is the case, we believe the Pocket 5 will have an OLED display. The only affordable OLED-equipped retro handheld is Anebrnic's RG556, as the others are far more costly. Retroid might try to get ahead of the competition by incorporating a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, but staying with MediaTek would probably result in cheaper pricing.
With the release of the Retroid Pocket Mini and Pocket 5, the retro handheld market is expected to be very active. The Ayaneo Pocket EVO, DMG, Pocket Micro, and others are also on the horizon.
Update! AMOLED Confirmed
More details regarding the Pocket 5 are leaking out as Retroid continues to open the faucet. The most recent update from the company's Twitter account confirms the sort of display being used. The Pocket 5 will have a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so Retroid is going up against Ayaneo.
Colour Options!
Retroid has returned with much more detail. The Retroid Pocket 5's color selections look fantastic. Based on the newly released pictures, Retroid intends to supply four colour variations and back shell replacements "for those who love to customize. "
New Chip!
Retroid is back with another update after concentrating on the Pocket 5 after first releasing the Pocket Mini. This time, the company has disclosed that the Snapdragon 865 would power both of these forthcoming handhelds. As a result, it provides comparable overall performance to the D1100; however, Snapdragon chips provide significantly more excellent emulator driver support.
Along with that, Retroid disclosed several other details that we were unaware of:
- Display: 5.5-inch AMOLED / 1080p / 16:9
- Video Output: DisplayPort 1080p60
- Battery: 5,000mAh
- Dimensions: 19.9 x 7.8 x 1.56cm
- Weight: 280g

Following the 24-hour period, the $209 pre-order pricing will apply. When pre-orders end, the Pocket 5 will cost $219 at retail.
Retroid also sells a "combo" consisting of the Pocket Mini and Pocket 5. The bundle's Early Bird price starts at $369 and lasts 24 hours. During the pre-order period, it increases to $389.
