Miyoo A30 Setup Guide

Recommended Accessories

  • MicroSD Card: You would be fine with 128GB or 256GB, given the platforms on which this runs.
  • MicroSD Card Reader: The UGREEN SD Card Reader
  • Charger: UGREEN 65W Charger (charges via USB-A connector)

Preparation

Clone SD card: These gadgets come with unbranded, poor-quality, and frequently failing SD cards. It would help if you changed them when the gadget is delivered. Click here to learn how to clone your SD card. I strongly advise doing so before using this advice.

Stock Setup Guide (without cloning)

With a brand-new, branded SD card and your own ROMs and BIOS files, this setup instruction assumes you want to start from scratch.

Attach your PC to your SD card.

As I suggested above, attach your branded SD card to your PC. If you still need to get Rufus, download it.

Before we format the SD card, launch Rufus. You can rename the volume label if you want to and change the boot selection to nonbootable. Verify that the file system is either Large FAT32 or FAT32. After that, click Start and select "Okay" for any alerts.

We'll return to it after that is finished, so leave it attached.

Visit the following link to access the Miyoo firmware: https://www.lomiyoo.com/en/gujianxiazai.html.

Download the A30's firmware. The final few digits indicate the date, and the device will typically read Miyoo A30-EN64GB-240501 or something close. This will be a big one—40GB or more.

Download each zip file separately; the zip would fail when I attempted to download them all at once. There should be several files with the extension.zip.XXX, where XXX is a number.

For this following step, you will require 7-zip from 7-zip.org.

Choose the file ending in 001, then right-click, 7-zip, and extract it here.

Numerous files and directories ought to be extracted. Transfer all files and folders to the SD card we formatted earlier.

That's it! You're entirely set up on stock when you safely eject it, insert it into your Miyoo, and switch it on.

Go to the bios and roms section if you wish to add them.

Updating stock firmware and files

Attach your PC to your SD card.

Visit the following link to access the Miyoo firmware: https://www.lomiyoo.com/en/gujianxiazai.html.

Download the A30's firmware, which is just a few MB and will typically indicate Miyoo A30 firmware.

Place the. img file on the root of your Miyoo's SD card after extracting the zip file.

After inserting the SD card and connecting it to a charger (USB C to USB A only), turn the gadget on.

It will notify you that a system upgrade is underway, which should take about ten minutes. Could you wait until it's finished?

That's it!

Adding ROMs & BIOS files

Attach your SD card to the computer.

If you navigate to the Roms folder, you should notice a number of folders for every system the device supports.

Moving your ROMs for each system into the appropriate system folder should be self-explanatory at this stage.

To access the BIOS, navigate to the RetroArch folder, followed by system and. retroarch. You can save your BIOS files inside this folder.

Tweaks

  • SNES (may not work on more recent firmware): A filter is now causing an issue in SNES. Navigate to Settings, Video, and remove the video filter after opening the RetroArch menu in any SNES game. Return to the RetroArch menu and select Save Core Overrides under Overrides.

Custom Firmware Options

The stock firmware we set up above can be replaced with custom firmware. I recommend using a different, brand-new SD card to test out any custom firmware and keeping your stock on hand in case you decide to go back.

OnionOS

The A30 does not currently have OnionOS available. Although there is no set date, I will create a video and update this tutorial if and when it is released.
