NetherSX2 Install Guide

What is this?

Although it wasn't strictly advised, AetherSX2 was the sole viable choice for PS2 emulation on Android and was only recently removed from the Google Play Store.

The replacement is NetherSX2, which will continue to receive updates and development. In this instruction, we'll install it.

Clear up the confusion.

Let's stick with a classic image because this can get confused.

The first is AetherSX2 version 3668, the last known stable version before the developer removed frontend functionality and added adverts.

The second and final version, AetherSX2 version 4248, was available on the Google Play Store. It had ads and malfunctioned with frontend functionality, making it incompatible with Daijisho and other apps.

Next, two versions of NetherSX2 corresponding to each of these are released. NetherSX2 Classic is simply version 3668.

Then there is NetherSX2 Current, an ion of 4248, that works with frontends and has. Itw minor changes and fixes in addition, including eliminating

The problem is that only some of these work well in some circumstances. Even AetherSX2 3668 and NetherSX Classic differ from one another. In addition to the fact that you can't install all four of these and choose between them, it's game-dependent, where things become a little annoying. You must select one, and even I need help with the correct response.

My instinct tells me to use Ethernet SX2 Current, but whatever works is fine. I've only ever used AetherSX2 3668, and that's what I've chosen. However, as this guide is about installing Nether, let's start.

Warnings & Preparation

First and foremost, I'll explain how to back up data for people with AetherSX2 installed on their devices. If you don't have it installed or have never had it, you can move on to the next part. Keep listening if you have ever had AetherSX2 installed since we need to verify something to ensure the installation of NetherSX2 doesn't go wrong.

A caution now. I didn't test AetherSX2 3668 to NetherSX2 Classic, so save states won't transfer over here, especially if you're switching from AetherSX2 3668 to NetherSX2 Current. In other words, save your games in-game to prevent losing any of your progress. Could you not claim that I did not warn you?

Backing up & Uninstalling AetherSX2

Navigate to Settings in the upper left corner of AetherSX2, select Transfer Data, and then select Export. All of your AetherSX2 data will be exported as a result. The simplest option is to create a folder in your Downloads folder named AetherSX2. You can now see exactly what will be exported after selecting that folder. Proceed and let it take care of itself.

Thus, we must remove AetherSX2 before we can import all of our AetherSX2 data into NetherSX2 when we arrive. Press the AetherSX2 button, then pick Uninstall from the App Info menu. Please don't choose to keep any data, and it's acceptable. AetherSX2 can also be uninstalled via the Apps area of the Android settings.

Since AetherSX2 is no longer in use, certain traces may still exist; this section also applies to anyone who previously used AetherSX2. Install Solid Explorer File Manager from the Google Play Store, as you will need it.

Scroll under Internal Storage, Android, or Data in Solid Explorer to ensure no folders begin with XYZ.aethersx2. If there is, remove it; you may need to grant rights to do so, but that is all that is required.

Deciding which version

Now that we have a fresh start, you must choose the version of NetherSX2 to install. Use NetherSX2 Current now; it is the best option despite the incorrect response.

NetherSX2 – Classic – Android

For those interested, I will continue to demonstrate NetherSX2 Classic, so let's begin there. Before I reveal the Windows way, let's start with the Android method. You only need to use one of these techniques.

Let's get AetherSX2 version 3668 now. Navigate to Resources on the NetherSX2 Classic Github by Trixarian, then expand Assets to download the first choice, 13330-v1.5-3668.apk.

After that, get the nethersx2-classic. The delta file from the first thread can be found by scrolling up.

Install UniPatcher from the Google Play Store, then launch it. Choose the nethersx2-classic. Delta file that we obtained for the patch file, the 13930-v1.5-3668.apk for the ROM file, and then a folder for the output file. You can even use the same Downloads folder. A patching complete notice will appear when you click the save button on the right. Double-check all of your actions if you encounter any errors. If they persist, you can use the Windows technique.

Open the patched APK by going to Solid Explorer, then to your Downloads folder or where you stored it. It should say NetherSX2, and you may open and install it. The Importing Data timestamp is now accessible.

NetherSX2 – Classic – Windows

If it doesn't work for you, let's try it on a Windows computer. Click this link to visit Trixarian's NetherSX2 Classic Github. This time, download the NetherSX2-classic.zip zip file from the delta file. Java must be installed for this to work, but you can install it here.

After that, open the patch-apk.bat file inside the NetherSX2-classic.zip file we got after extracting it. After allowing it to finish, a file named 1330-v1.5-3668-mod[patched].apk will appear. That completes the NetherSX2 APK. After using a USB cord to connect your device to your PC, transfer the file to your device, and install it, you can proceed to the Importing Data step.

NetherSX2 – Current – Android

Let's proceed for those who wish to install NetherSX2 Current. The steps are the same. Before moving on to Windows, let's begin with the Android procedures. You only need to use one of these techniques.

To get the nethersx2.delta file in the first post, go to Trixarian's NetherSX2 Patches Github here. Then, under the Resources article, download the AetherSX2 APK, 15210-v1.5-4248.apk.

Install UniPatcher from the Google Play Store, then launch it. Choose the nethersx2. Delta file we obtained for the patch file, the 15210-v1.5-4248.apk file for the ROM file, and the output file by selecting a folder; you may pick the Downloads folder. If you click save on the right, you will receive a complete patching notice. Double-check all of your actions if you encounter any errors. If they persist, you can use the Windows technique.

Open the patched APK by going to Solid Explorer, then to your Downloads folder or where you stored it. It should say NetherSX2, and you may open and install it. You can now move directly to the section on importing data.

NetherSX2 – Current – Windows

If it doesn't work for you, let's try it on a Windows computer. Click this link to visit Trixarian's NetherSX2 Patches Github. This time, download the NetherSX2-builder.zip package. Java must be installed for this to work, but you can install it here.

After that, open the build-nethersx2.bat file by extracting the NetherSX2-builder.zip file we downloaded. After allowing it to finish, the 15210-v1.5-4248-noads.apk file will appear in the PatchedAPK folder. That completes the NetherSX2 APK. After using a USB cord to connect your device to your PC, transfer the file to your device, and install it, you can proceed to the Importing Data step.

Importing Data

If you don't have any existing data to import, you're done. This tutorial will assist you in configuring NetherSX2. However, it would help if you remembered what you've forgotten because even users importing data must adjust their settings.

This is for individuals who must import their current info. Navigate to Settings in the upper left corner of NetherSX2, select Transfer Data, and then select Import. Your whole AetherSX2 data will be imported as a result of this. Select the folder created when the data was exported; for me, it was named AetherSX2 under the Downloads folder. When it asks what you want to import, choose everything, click "Okay," and let it take care of the rest.

You have finished configuring NetherSX2 and must only adjust a few settings, such as your controllers and the game directory.
