Obtainium Setup Guide
What is it?
This software updates GitHub releases, such as Vita3K and RetroArch. These apps are difficult to update since their best versions are found on GitHub rather than the Play Store or anywhere else. This is where Obtainium is useful.
Obtainium maintains the most recent version of any Github release. It functions like a Github Play Store, alerting you when a new update is available and allowing you to install it from within the App. You can begin to understand why it is essential.
Install
Let's review the setup. Use the Github link to install Obtainium (https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium). Select the "show all assets" option under the releases area to view all available downloads. Then, download the file app-release.apk. Remember to install the APK. To be informed when there are updates, open the APK and enable notifications.
Setup
Click Add App at the bottom now that we're in. It's simple using Vita3K, and it doesn't matter if you already have it loaded. You should obtain the Github URL; the list is as follows:
- Vita3K – https://github.com/Vita3K/Vita3K-Android
Return to Obtainium and enter the link in the first line of the Source URL spot. Next, select "Add" on the right. If you have the App installed, it should now take you to a new page with the words Update; if not, it should say Install. Click Install or Update in either case. A popup will prompt you to install unknown sources the first time you do this; proceed.
To use the other apps besides RetroArch, follow these identical procedures. What I just described are the simple methods for Vita3K. Add the App, copy the GitHub link, and install or update each. Any app with an update will notify you and display it within it. You may click the update button to update the App immediately.
RetroArch & Others
Since RetroArch is a little different, let's proceed.
On your device, go to https://apps.obtainium.imranr.dev/ and look for RetroArch.
After choosing Add to Obtainium, the Obtainium app should open; choose Import.
Conveniently, you may use the same procedures and that website for any other apps you like!
Life will be fantastic now that all of those apps are automatically updated.
