Retro Revival: Analogue Pocket GBC Colors Edition Announced

The Analogue offices have an ample supply of dye. Every few months since the Pocketet's launch, Analogue has released updates with many new features and bug fixes. Save states, specially designed display filters, and—most importantly—open FPGA compatibility have all been implemented. Because OpenFPGA allowed games to be loaded straight from the SD card into the console, developers all around the world were able to create cores for consoles that the Analogue Pocket cartridge adapters did not initially support.

Firmware 2.3 adds numerous new features and updates to the system-included cores and systems, continuing this trend. The business has revealed a new limited edition colour scheme for the Analogue Pocket and Analogue OS update 2.3.

Analogue Pocket GBC Colors Edition

Along with this update, Analogue has shown new versions of its Analogue Pocket modelled after the Gameboy Color's colour scheme.

In the past, Analogue has been criticized for releasing new Pocket handheld colours and versions while omitting some promised features. Since August 2022, the firm has issued five limited edition sets of the Pocket.

In its original announcement article and product page, Analogue bragged about the Pocket's compatibility with the Analogue DAC. Thanks to DAC support, the Pocket has native CRT TV connectivity. That feature is still being developed, even with the release of 2.3.

The additional colours revealed today carry on Analogue's practice of releasing limited edition consoles in impromptu rounds. The business has produced aluminum, classic, translucent, and glow-in-the-dark versions just for the Pocket.

As the name suggests, the GBC Colours Edition resembles the Classic Edition, which was first made available in November 2023. Whereas the original DMG Gameboy's Play-it-Loud colour options inspired those, the Gameboy Color's colour options inspired this one.

GBC Colors Edition: Price and Availability

The GBC Colours Edition of the Analogue Pocket will offer six colours—kiwi, dandelion, teal, grape, berry, and gold. On September 12, 2024, at 8 AM PDT, they will go on sale for $249.99 and be preordered. The first day of shipping will be September 16. On September 12, the vintage Analogue Pocket in black and white will also be available again.
